Sugar prices maintained its surge in the local market on Thursday amid increasing demand, dealers said. On the cereals side, sugar inferior type gained Rs 135 at Rs 2575 and the best type also followed suit and picked up Rs 30 to Rs 2615, dealers said. Khandsari rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2000-2400. Guwar picked up Rs 50 to Rs 1650-1750 for all stations.

Mexipak old and new both types shed Rupee five to Rs 1175 and Rs 1185, respectively. Other items maintained their overnight levels, they added.

On the seed side, cottonseed oilcake with bag low type gained rupee three at Rs 413 and better type was higher by rupee five to Rs 420 amid tight supply position, dealers said.
